Three teams from the Little Miami School District recently competed at Miami University in the Regional Destination Imagination Tournament — and all three teams brought home trophies for their schools.
The teams prepared for months to compete in a Central Challenge that required creative problem solving and teamwork. They also had to win points in an Instant Challenge that required an improvised team solution to a creative challenge. About 530 students from the region competed in the tournament.
From Little Miami Junior High School, “The Lucky Doubles,” won a second-place trophy in the cardiology category.
The team created an architectural structure out of playing
cards which was designed to hold weight. Team members are Alicia Anderson, Autumn Christensen, Shianne Connor, Stephanie Cornett, Lisa Franklin and Laura Kneip. Team manager is Diane Franklin.
Two teams from Morrow
Elementary brought home third-place trophies for the school.
“The Team Players” — Isabel Davidson, Gianna Fontanella, Madison Hufffman and Evan Jones — wrote a script and starred in their own theatrical production, for which they designed the set and special effects. The team manager is Debra Davidson.
“The Aviators” — Thorance Anderskow, Spencer Ballard, Justin Briggs, Dylan Papali and Ryan Papali — designed and constructed aircraft that could land in a landing zone, and one of the aircraft had to be made from a single sheet of paper. Their team is coached by Paul Papali.
Destination Imagination is an enriching program available to all Little Miami students who can form a team with an adult volunteer team manager.
